The Dallas AFL-CIO Central Labor Council meeting will take place on June 28. At 7:30 PM. Come to the Amalgamated Transit Union Hall, 1111 Empire Central Place, Dallas, TX 75247. During our regular third-Thursday meeting time, activists from all over Texas will be assembling at the Fort Worth Convention Center for the Texas Democratic Party Convention. The week afterward, unionists will be able to plan the best possible election strategy. Principal officer Mark York wants our best thinking at the June 28 meeting.

All the unionists who attend the state convention in Fort Worth are encouraged to join the Labor Caucus at 10:15 AM on Friday,  June 22 in room 114. It will be followed by a retiree caucus at 11:30.

Texas Labor Clarifies the Issues

The Texas AFL-CIO held a town hall meeting in Dallas on June 16. Approximately 100 activists crowded into the Audelia Library to be welcomed by Dallas AFL-CIO Political Director Lorraine Montemayor then hear about the issues from the experts. Our best thinkers and many canvassers have indicated the main issues for Texas working families:

  • Increasing the minimum wage
  • Equal pay for equal work
  • Affordable education through college
  • Access to apprenticeships and job training
  • Paid sick time
