The Dallas AFL-CIO Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the CWA Hall, 1408 N. Washington. We are fighting for everybody, and good fighting takes planning. We should be finalizing our Dallas mayoral and city council endorsements and announcing them right away. We'll discuss the Texas AFL-CIO 2019 scholarships and get an update on the national AFL-CIO Advisory Council meeting.

Opportunities and challenges abound as long as the Texas  Legislature is sitting. The biggest threat right now comes from the "death star" bill, SB15 and HB1654, because it would take away the ability of cities to enact benefits that help working families, including earned paid sick leave, rest breaks and fair-chance hiring. Our March 19 phone banking session expects to focus on this bill. The Texas  AFL-CIO is asking everyone to start now. Call your state senate office at 1-833-417-4260 and politely ask your senator to vote "NO!"

Veasey Will Join Labor Fest!

Congressman Marc Veasey will join  the stars of North Texas labor at 3 PM on March 23 for an afternoon of labor songs, culture, and critical information. Leaders of the Tarrant and Dallas AFL-CIO will make presentations. Participants will get to meet the family of Committeeman Corey Gregg, who was recently victimized while standing up for the rights of members.

It takes place at UAW 848, 2218 East Main  in Grand Prairie. The local union is celebrating its 75th (diamond) anniversary. The Labor Fest is free.

School Employees Make Their Point

At least four full Dallas buses joined the school employees from  all over the state for an Austin rally on March 11 to demand decent funding for our children's schools. The big turnout showed why education workers have been winning victories all over the United States -- they have support from far and wide.

Pictures of supporters, including students, retirees, and churches are on our web site. Our Facebook page has videos and even more photos. The Dallas newspaper gave it front-page coverage with quotes from two Dallas AFL-CIO delegates, Tony Chenevert and Judy Bryant.

Transport Workers Call for Aircraft Safety

Dallas AFL-CIO principal officer Mark York asks us to take time to view and share this clip from CNBC on the recent grounding of the Boeing 737. Transport Workers Union President John Samuelsen speaks out on the practice of foreign repairs facilities in South America and China and the incestuous relationship between the FAA and the Airlines.
