Labor Protests on Wednesday
At 2 PM Wednesday, June 17, the Workers First Car Caravan leaves 1408 N Washington for downtown and the Federal Building. In Ft Worth, they leave at noon from 421 S Adams Street. Some 300 other events are scheduled in Texas and across the nation and Puerto Rico. The leader of the coalition is the AFL-CIO.
Workers First Caravan for Racial and Economic Justice
On Wednesday, June 17, working people from Texas will join with workers in all 50 states to take part in a Workers First Caravan for Racial and Economic Justice, a massive national day of action calling for bold policies to confront the three crises facing America: a public health pandemic, an economic free fall and long-standing structural racism. America’s Five Economic Essentials must be combined with policing reforms and implemented in ways that recognize the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on workers of color. This is why working people demand Congress pass the HEROES Act.
In Washington, D.C., a 1,000 car caravan will make its way through the city to make sure Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell knows his inaction is unacceptable, and that the labor movement will mobilize to fight for our health, our economy and our people.
Catch Up with the Conversation
National AFL-CiO is urging all affiliates to join community conversations about the current protest movement. Our web site has an update that may be helpful. The site also has an invitation to COVIC-19 training initiated by our own Kym Grant. National leaders are holding several important discussions weekly. The next one is on Facebook at 9 AM Central Time tomorrow, June 16.
The named delegates to the Dallas Central Labor Council will have a chance for planning on Thursday, January 18 and again the following month.
