It's a Very Good Friday!
Easter inspires renewed hope. Things are looking up in America, and we can thank the labor movement and others who have worked hard in progressive politics. Without those efforts, we wouldn’t be seeing:
- First Friday government statistics showing that new job creation is up substantially
- Growing optimism about the economy
- Pending legislation for massively improved labor law, for jobs and infrastructure, and for voting democracy
- Overwhelming popularity for voters’ rights that even includes major corporations

AFL-CIO Starts Roundtables
Political Director Mariah Warwick has begun a series of roundtable discussions between union activists and political candidates. These ZOOM meetings are not intense “grillings” like the ones we did with candidates before we made our endorsements. They are educational exchanges that benefit all participants.
The first one was April 1st with Jaime Resendez, the labor-endorsed candidate for Dallas City Council in District 5. Resendez described his district and talked about the issues that he had discovered by walking and bicycling among the residents. Activists asked about ways that they could help those neighborhoods.
A central topic of the April 1 discussion was infrastructure. “I feel like I’m turning into an infrastructure nerd,” Resendez commented. The activists in attendance were also vitally interested in infrastructure, especially because the Biden Administration introduced a major jobs and infrastructure bill on the previous day. The candidate agreed that it’s something we can all work on together.
Save The Date: May 1
The current elections come to a head on May 1. Coincidentally, May 1 is also International Workers Day. Plan on joining together that day.
