The Dallas AFL-CIO has selected the best city council candidates for  working families in 2023. Here are the election results:

  • Place 1 Chad West -- won in first round
  •  
  • Place 2 Jesse Moreno -- won in first round
  •  
  • Place 3 Joe Tave -- Lost in June 10, 2023 runoff
  •  
  • Place 4 Carolyn King Arnold -- won in first round
  •  
  • Place 5 Jaime Resendez -- won in first round
  •  
  • Place 6 Omar Narvaez -- won in first round
  •  
  • Place 7 Adam Bazaldua -- won in first round
  •  
  • Place 8 Tennell Atkins -- won in first round
  •  
  • Place 10 Brian Hasenbauer -- lost in first round
  •  
  • Place 14 Paul Ridley -- won in first round

The educators' union, Alliance/AFT, supported Joyce Foreman for School Board. She won in the first round. Labor did not endorse in the other School Board races.

The process began when our Political Committee reached out to all the candidates. Candidates then responded by filling out a carefully crafted survey of their positions. Then they met face-to-face with union representatives for grilling on such topics as understanding unions, privatization, and building progressive coalitions. Only the best won the right to display the Dallas AFL-CIO logo on their campaign materials and to benefit from the votes of union members and our substantial range of allies and supporters.

Dallas election turnout in the first round was less than 9%. In the runoff elections, 5%. Clearly, turnout is key for working families. On June 16, the national AFL-CIO made the earliest presidential endorsement in history in favor of the Biden/Harris 2024 ticket. Labor is starting early because the stakes are high!
