Action Tonight and Tomorrow
Tonight, Friday December 6 at 5:30PM, and tomorrow, Saturday December 7 at 5:30PM, North Texans have an opportunity to build our dictator-resistant progressive coalition with labor at its core. We will be picketing against the union busters and scabs who have joined billionaire Elon Musk in trying to overturn American workers’ rights by outlawing the National Labor Relations Act. Unionists and knowledgeable activists meet at 2700 Ann Williams way in Dallas’ Arts District.
Our courageous Fired Black Dancers have won every battle so far. The National Labor Relations Board filed more than 40 unfair labor practices charges against management. The Dallas City Council voted unanimously against union busting. The City’s committee on Quality of Life, Arts, and Culture has recommended taking away management’s $248,000 subsidy. Attendance is low at the scab performances we picket.
The Fired Black Dancers have set up their own benefit dance performance and on-line ticket sales are underway. Click here to get your tickets for the December 18 or the December 19 performance at the Latino Cultural Center in East Dallas.
We have another opportunity to help with an important union organizing drive in the early morning of December 12 & 13. Contact lluckhardt.dallasaflcio@gmail.com
Booming Economy is Best for Working Families
History shows that union organizing drives and contract negotiations go well when the economy is good, and President-Elect Trump could not have inherited a better one. The new Bureau of Labor Statistics report says that 227,000 jobs were added in November. Unemployment remains low at 4.2%, and wages are rising at an annual 4% rate – higher than inflation!
Clean energy jobs are growing twice as fast as the broader labor market. The many infrastructure projects using federal dollars from the Biden Administration favor union workers.
There is absolutely no reason to anticipate a slowdown in successful union-led concerted action activity whether it is of an offensive or defensive nature. In a period like this, everyone should be joining unions or organizations that are close to the unions. Contact genelantz.dallasaflcio@gmail.com
Build the progressive coalition that has already started around the Fired Black Dancers by attending the December 6th and 7th pickets. Buy tickets for yourself and your friends for their benefit performance.
Start getting ready for major coalition-building marches on January 18.
