Actions and Issues

Gene Lantz, Dallas President

A group of retirees and labor supporters publicized the fight to save and extend Social Security on June 22. News coverage included the Dallas Observer and People’s World. We generated interest from Channel 8 and from KERA radio. Of course, the “Workers Beat” program at 9AM Saturdays on KNON.org and 89.3FM covered it. We also pushed our own accounts, photos, and videos on social media. Publicizing the real issues for working families is a solid way to build our movement and win elections in 2024.

The group would like to have another public event on the real issue of climate change. As soon as we find a knowledgeable main speaker, we’ll announce a time and place. Contact genelantz.dallasaflcio@gmail.com. Here is some related recent news:

Flight Attendant Strategy Is Working

Flight attendants take action

Some months back, flight attendants across the nation announced a joint effort for decent contracts. Many labor activists, including those in Dallas, joined in. Since then, our own Transport Workers Union Local 556 Flight Attendants at Southwest Airlines have ratified a contract. Alaskan Air flight attendants have announced a tentative agreement. But the American Professional Flight Attendants, who are members of the Tarrant County Central Labor Council, are still fighting. The Tarrant Labor Council is working on a solidarity letter that local union leaders can sign. Meanwhile, all labor leaders are urged to contact Jade Cheng at jcheng@apfa.org.
