Are You an Organizer?

No new technology has exceeded the telephone for organizing. When we make contact with union members and retirees, we are strengthening the union movement. Incidentally, we also win elections.

Dallas AFL-CIO is building our movement today with calls to union members in Dallas City Council District 3. Your help is needed. Contact Jason at jtomlinson.dallasaflcio@gmail.com

Actions Increase

Constituency groups of the Dallas AFL-CIO continue to make friends by taking action with community activists. Last Saturday, the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans (TARA), Young Active Labor Leaders (YALL), and Labor Committee for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) co-sponsored a protest against the daggers pointed at working families by Washington and Austin.

"No cuts, no special sessions"

The next day, YALL led a really good turnout at a "Sip In" at a Starbucks.

339,000 Jobs Created!

Despite all the dire predictions, America’s job creation continues to look good in the May report. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also says that 3.7%, up from 3.4%, of telephone survey respondents report that they are looking for a job. The rising unemployment number stems from the estimated size of the workforce, not from net job losses. As always, unemployment for Black and Brown workers is most alarming.

The worst news was that wage growth was reported at only a 3.6% annual rate – not nearly enough to overcome inflation.

Join Strategic Planning

The political, economic, and technical ground is shifting under the feet of American working families. We need the best planning possible; consequently, the Dallas AFL-CIO is soliciting good research and understanding as we chart the future.

Labor asks important questions:

  • Are we presently doing our best in organizing and politics?
  • Can we make more friends among community activists?
  • Are we focusing the efforts of our members and allies as well as possible?
  • Are we ready for future challenges such as artificial intelligence and an increasingly anti-labor Supreme Court?
