Bad Week for Union Haters

It has not been a good week for union haters, race baiters, and aspiring dictators. Their defeats were almost too long to list.
Just yesterday, the Dallas City Council said a great big "no" to turning the police into federal deportation agents. Our Young Active Labor Leaders were there. Republican Mayor Johnson wasn't.

- Voter turnout was surprisingly high, especially among younger voters. 73% higher than predicted in Dallas County
- California voters, in solidarity with Texas, agreed to redistrict and nullify Republican gerrymandering
- Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett scored one for Dallas by endorsing the candidate who came in first in the Houston Congressional race
- Union candidate Taylor Rehmet totally embarrassed Tarrant County Republicans and the billionaires on November 4th
Rehmet Teaches Some Lessons
Union candidate Taylor Rehmet achieved nearly 48% of the vote in Senate District 9. He overwhelmed two Republicans who had over $3 million dollars compared to his $150,000. The district went for Trump in 2024 by 18 points! The first lesson is that rich Trumpsters can be beaten.
Another lesson is that union candidates can win. Rehmet is President of the Machinists' Union State Council. He will have support of all unions, retirees, and labor's many supporters in the runoff.
Yet another lesson is that Texas Republicans may be making the worst mistake of their lives if they thin out their congressional districts in an effort to get five more seats in 2026. Senate District 9 had already been redistricted to make it "totally safe" in the minds of Republicans, but look what Taylor Rehmet did!
