Be Jolly With Labor
The Dallas AFL-CIO Central Labor Council Party is 7:30PM Thursday, December 15, at 1408 N Washington. All members of affiliated unions are invited, but they must RSVP right away to jtomlinson.dallasaflcio@gmail.com because they have to buy the food in advance.
Solidarity Is Growing
The AFL-CIO and the Communications Workers of America are calling for solidarity with NewsGuild employees. They are journalists who organized recently and are seeking their first contract. New Yorkers walked out yesterday, December 8. The Fort Worth NewsGuild is finishing their second week of strike. They organized over 2 years ago, but management has stonewalled contract negotiations.
Picketers meet at 11:45 each day at 835 Foch in Fort Worth for a 1-hour picket followed by lunch. Organizations can get a speaker for their meetings by contacting isaacwindes@gmail.com. The Dallas Chapter of Texas Alliance for Retired Americans had a speaker, investigative reporter Nicole Manna, at their December 7 meeting. They were able to raise almost $200. President Kenneth Williams asked all North Texas Retirees to join the picket line for "retiree day" on Friday, December 16. Donations to the strike fund can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/f/fort-worth-newsguild-strike-fund/donate.
Across the nation and in San Antonio, unionists are demonstrating at Starbucks today.
