Be Ready, Be Strong!

SAVE THE DATE
Your labor movement does not intend to sit around while the Trump Administration slashes every important program for working families and retirees. We are organizing for a possible action on the afternoon of February 15. Retirees expect to nail down our participation at the meeting at 12:30PM on Wednesday, February 5, at 334 Centre. Everybody is invited.
LABOR IS STRONG
The Texas AFL-CIO reviewed the latest figures from the Bureau of Statistics and noted that Texas union membership rose to new highs during 2024. The state’s density, percentage of employed persons who are union members, held steady even while the national number continued to slowly fade.
The article in the Dallas newspaper took note of our record high approval rating from the public. Our Dallas victories in 2024 were not solely accomplished by union members. Our many allies and friends made a giant difference!
The number of workers who are affiliated to the AFL-CIO is not in the Bureau of Labor Statistics figures, but Jason Tomlinson says that Dallas AFL-CIO added three major union locals and over 2,000 newly affiliated members last year. We’re doing our part!
National Is On the Job
Liz Shuler, President of National AFL-CIO, hosted an emergency meeting on January 31. The first few days of the Trump Administration “felt like months” with wild, often illegal, cuts and attacks against working people. The crippling of the National Labor Relations Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission were among the nastiest and most direct attacks against working people.

Our labor movement is collecting information and preparing for united action, but it will not be unplanned and spontaneous. When we move, we will move together and we will be effective. A national day of action may be part of our plan.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the United Farm Workers (UFW) are circulating these materials to their members. “Know your rights” meetings are being held across the country.

Dallas AFL-CIO is committed to holding a series of Citizenship Forums to help immigrants get protection. Texas AFL-CIO and Tarrant County AFL-CIO are the main hosts of one on February 8th at the IBEW Hall, 684 W Tarrant Rd in Grand Prairie.
