All members of affiliated unions are invited to the Dallas AFL-CIO Central Labor Council meeting at 7:30PM on August 17 at 1408 N Washington. It will be our final meeting before labor’s biggest unification effort on Labor Day.

Unions and other progressives are hurrying to get their tickets, tables, endorsements, and ads. Checks go to "Dallas AFL-CIO," 1408 N Washington#240, Dallas TX 75204. On-line payments can be made through PayPal.

Unify on Labor Day

National AFL-CIO has been leading the Dallas chapter through the strategic planning process. Recommendations for change will be considered on Thursday. Our web site reflects some of the changes underway. There is a new section named “resources” with the results of our weekly explorations into labor education. Our ongoing labor calendar of events is under construction. Watch our web site for further changes.

Change is a part of rising to the new situation. We are currently fighting for safety, including water for overheated workers, for back pay owed to gig workers, for better contracts, and for new organizing. All progressives and individuals are asked to change along with labor!

Youth Leads Changes

The Young Active Labor Leaders (YALL) are pioneering changes, especially in our solidarity activities with unions and other progressive organizations. The major political importance of young workers was recently underlined in the Washington Post by one of labor’s worst opponents, leading Republican spokesman Scott Walker:

“For all the talk about a red wave last year, the biggest reason it didn’t materialize wasn’t candidate selection, it wasn’t a given issue — those are factors — it was young people, 18 to 29-year-old voters, in key states like mine in Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania. They went with the more liberal versus a conservative candidate by 40 points or more in those key battleground states.”

Angi DeFilippo, a mighty force for Texas solidarity, has indicated that she is stepping down from YALL leadership in their upcoming elections.
