"We're Going to Bring Everyone into this Movement!"

National AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler's Labor Day address on August 29 included our intention to include everyone in America's sweeping labor movement.

Liz Shuler invites everybody into the labor movement

At the conclusion of her "State of the Unions" address, she added, "Our main goal is to make sure that this movement belongs to everybody!" New polling shows that we are close to our goal. Not only do 71% of all Americans of all political persuasions approve of unions, as previously announced, but those under age 30 are backing unions by 88%! Labor has clearly taken its rightful lead in the progressive movement, and you're invited!

Jobs Report: 32 Months of Gains

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job gains are continuing, and that President Biden's chances for re-election will benefit. Average hourly earnings over the past 12 months have increased by 4.3% while inflation has dropped to 3.4%. In other words, American workers are now gaining more in wages than we are losing to price increases.

'Normal" or "structural" unemployment is generally considered to be 4%, but the BLS reports 3.8% in August. When unemployment is low, working families have a better chance to win our organizing campaigns and contract fights.
