Dallas Labor Battles Inequality
Communications Workers led a rally at Senator Cruz's office on Hall Street on December 7. Dallas AFL-CIO and other groups backed them in demanding a "no" vote on the Republican tax giveaway and budget cut bill now in the reconciliation process.
If the Senate and House approve the finalized version, over a trillion dollars will move to giant corporations and the wealthiest ranks while working families will foot the bill.
Even while the tax heist is taking place, the Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, revealed that they will be focusing on cutting Medicare and Social Security to help pay for the Republican tax bill, according to the CWA Newsletter.
Texas retirees continue to urge everyone to call Congress with the free hotline:
1-866-828-4162
Dallas retirees are also calling all their contacts in West Texas Congressional District 23. The national Alliance for Retired Americans thinks that Congressman Hurd of CD23 may be the only Texas congressman who might listen to his constituents. A demonstration is set at his San Antonio office for December 11. A recent poll by Quinnipiac reveals that only 29% of Americans approve of the Republican plan.
Start Work on 2018
Political candidates and prospective precinct chairpersons must register by December 11. The Dallas AFL-CIO will carry out its rigorous screening project soon afterward. Candidates and progressives who want to help with the screening should contact Lorraine Montemayor at 214-826-4808.
The Dallas Chapter of Texas Alliance for Retired Americans is exploring a novel approach to assisting retirees in making intelligent choices in 2018. Beginning in January, they will begin a series of social events in precincts where top activists live. While the voters enjoy the party, they will get literature and contact information that will help them through this critical election year.
Will Trump Fire Mueller?
The special investigator has filed charges against several advisors close to the Trump campaign and seems to be getting closer to the President. In the event that Trump should fire Mueller, nationwide protests are planned. In Dallas, the protests will take place at City Hall. If Mueller is fired before 2 PM, the protests start at 5 PM that same day. If Mueller is fired after 2 PM, then the protests will take place at noon the following day.
