The Dallas Labor Day Breakfast is the premier political event in North Texas. Important labor and political leaders will set the pattern for the most critical part of the 2018 campaign. From this point, our movement draws together and takes united action.

Top labor leaders on the program include Louis Malfaro of the Texas AFT, Oscar Owens of National ATU, and Marc Perrone of National UFCW. Among the many important political figures are Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa, Governor candidate Lupe Valdez, Congressional candidate Colin Allred, and U.S. Representatives Marc Veasey and Eddie Bernice Johnson.

Last-minute tickets can be bought for $35 at Eddie Deen's ranch, 944 S Lamar, Dallas 75202. The event begins at 8:30 AM on September 3. For the sakes of working families, be there!

City Council Race Is Opportunity

The resignation of Councilman Dwaine Caraway means that working families have an opportunity to elect strong representation in Dallas District Four. The City Secretary has certified a long list of candidates for November:

  • Kebran W. Alexander
  • Carolyn King Arnold
  • Dawn M. Blair
  • Lester Houston
  • Obi E. Igbokwe
  • Becky Lewis
  • Vincent T. Parker
  • Joli Angel Robinson
  • Keyaira D. Saunders
  • Brandon J. Vance
  • Justina Walford
  • Donald Washington

Certification for candidate Corwyn M. Davis is pending.

As always the Dallas AFL-CIO will organize rigorous candidate screening and planning.  Contact Political Director Lorraine Montemayor at 214-448-1557 to participate.

Labor Makes Plans

The best plans for working families must be carefully laid. AFL-CIO Political Director Lorraine Montemayor held a special strategy session on August 22. Continuous re-evaluations will continue through the November election and the very-likely special runoff election for Dallas City Council District Four.

Stop Brett Kavanaugh

National AFL-CIO is asking activists to write to their senators to vote against the Supreme Court nominee.

They charge that Brett Kavanaugh has a dangerous track-record of protecting the privileges of the wealthy and powerful at the expense of working people.  Judge Kavanaugh voted to empower the the Secretary of Defense to abolish collective bargaining altogether.
