Participants at the Dallas Central Labor Council meeting on February 15 were overcome with grieving for our sister Gwen York. A special room was set up with photos and contributed flowers so that the members of affiliated unions could exchange their remembrances and feelings. A wonderful written tribute is on the Texas AFL-CIO site. Our Facebook Page has a photo tribute prepared by Jason Tomlinson.

The memorial service was announced. It takes place at 3:30PM on Sunday, February 18, at Spring Creek Church, 2660 Beltline Rd, Garland, 75044.

President George Rangel began his remarks with, “We will get through this together.” He concluded, “This is a very somber meeting, but we are going to work on, because that’s what Gwen would have wanted.”

Rally for Early Voting

Vote-by-mail and early voting command an increasingly large share of the total vote in every election. The Dallas AFL-CIO, Communications Workers 6215, Texas Alliance for Retired Americans, and other organizations will join in a rally at 10:30 AM on February 20, the first day of early voting, at the George Allen Courthouse, 600 Commerce Street in downtown Dallas. All endorsed candidates and supporters are encouraged to attend.

The Dallas County Democratic Party reports that they have persuaded the Dallas County Commissioners to expand the number of early voting sites to 41. To locate which sites are most convenient for, go to www.dallascountyvotes.org.

Political Director Lorraine Montemayor has announced a very ambitious program to win these elections for working people. Everyone is needed. Call her at 214-448-1557 to volunteer, or just show up at the actions listed below.
