Individual union members are the rock upon which an irresistible world force is built. The Dallas Central Labor Council coordinates AFL-CIO members with local, state, national, and international forces which, when focused together, can never be defeated!

We Are Part of Texas Movement

The November 15 monthly meeting of Dallas AFL-CIO elected two new members to our delegation to the state AFL-CIO Executive Board. David Lopez of the Elevator Constructors and Kenneth Day of the Amalgamated Transit Union, both outstanding members of the Dallas Council, will be participating in future Texas AFL-CIO meetings.

We are already distributing applications for the 2019 Texas AFL-CIO scholarship program. Labor’s lobbying effort is coordinated in Austin. To keep up with developments, write to ed@texasaflcio.organd get on the regular mailing list.

And the National Movement

Dallas AFL-CIO leader Mark York participates with the National AFL-CIO at every opportunity, and national reciprocates. They often show their respect for Dallas achievements.

Various parts of our movement also participate at the national level. For example, a large delegation of Dallas activists joined other Texans at the National Convention of the Alliance for Retired Americans in Las Vegas November 13-15.

Among the important speakers at the retiree’s convention was Bob Martinez, who came out of the Machinists’ union in Fort Worth, had his office in Dallas for years, and is now International President.

And International

AFL-CIO leaders and members recognize that many of our problems are also underway in other nations. The worldwide attack on pensions is a good example.
