Dallas Labor Will Resist!
As national and state politicians continue their unprecedented attacks against working families, Dallas labor and our allies declared ourselves ready to fight. This week, we’ll throw ourselves into winning the June 10 runoff election and push the Dallas City Council toward a positive stand for our brothers and sisters without legal papers.
Join Us on Saturday
Political Director Lorraine Montemayor will be assigning volunteers to get out the vote beginning at 10 AM on June 3 from 1408 N Washington #240. No experience is required to visit or call union members and make sure they are heard in this important election process.
Guard Democracy
City Council District 6 has been part of a major voting scandal during the May 6 first round of elections. Dallas AFL-CIO Political Director Lorraine Montemayor now cautions voters to report any attempt at voter intimidation during the current early voting or on June 10. Voters must not allow anyone to follow them to the voting booth to watch their vote. Any suspicion of illegal activity should be reported to the Dallas Elections Office at (214) 819-6300
Come to City Hall on Wednesday
Labor’s allies Workers Defense Project and Texas Organizing Project invite all activists to Dallas City Hall at 8 AM on June 7. We want our city to join progressive Texans in opposing Senate Bill 4, which has now become a state law against local control on immigration policies. We will argue that our local law enforcers are busy enough without having to do the work assigned to federal officials. Furthermore, the state law will disrupt our businesses, our schools, and our families.
People who sign up early may address the City Council meeting by calling 214-670-3738. Our allies are also calling on us to call, email, tweet, and/or visit each council member. For more information contact Diana Ramirez at (469)657-3929.
Labor and Democrats Take a Stand
On May 30, at 1408 N Washington, Democratic Party leaders Nancy Pelosi and Marc Veasey joined AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Mark York and labor's allies in publicly launching “Resistance Summer.” The Dallas newspaper, there with a host of newspersons, reported, “The mobilization is designed to push back against the policies of President Donald Trump and stop repeal of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.”
