This Fight Is for Everybody!

Labor was prominent in the Dallas No Kings rally and parade October 18. We were part of the seven million Americans at over 2,500 sites speaking up against the aspiring dictatorship. The Dallas newspaper published an estimate of 2,600 at Pacific Plaza before and during the rainstorm, but there were far more people afterward when they marched down Main and back up Commerce Street.

Dallas AFL-CIO was among the first local organizations to endorse our event. Lou Luckhardt’s table and canopy setup were as good as anybody had. At least two outstanding local labor leaders spoke: David Marshall of CWA 6215 and Justin Chen of the EPA Council for AFGE

The aspiring dictator and all of his supporters did everything they could, including calling out the military in Austin, to discourage participation. It didn’t work. Newspersons everywhere were looking for, and probably hoping for, some signs of violence. If they had found any, they would have featured it in their main headlines, but they didn't.

Young and old oppose dictatorship

All kinds of people participated. Reverend Eric Folkerth brought a big group of faith leaders. Speakers brought forth an unending list of complaints against the dictatorship and possible solutions for working families ranging from voting to organizing a nationwide general strike.

Your labor movement isn't taking any rest breaks. On Monday after the Saturday march, we were back on the streets to urge everybody to take advantage of early voting. Our Young Active Labor Leaders are stirring up good trouble with organizing drives, contract fights, and with a major issue in city government. There are many more actions, large and small, coming up.

Dallas Police Must Not be Forced to Work for ICE

Dallas Police Chief Comeaux took a principled stand when he was offered $25 million to turn Dallas police into ICE deportation officers. As soon as he said "absolutely not," the Mayor started trying to get City Council to cave in to the Trump program. Our Young Active Labor Leaders were among the groups that came together quickly to back the Chief's principled position.

All over the nation, government officials and heads of major organizations are being bribed and/or coerced into becoming part of the racist regime. To their shame, a lot of them are becoming partners in crime. Dallas is resisting.

Seniors are in the Fight

The October 24 Dallas newspaper included an article about a  new experiment being performed on Texas Medicare recipients. They are using artificial intelligence to impose preauthorization standards and deny care under their age-old camouflage of pretending to cut back on fraud.

Newspaper article 10/24/25

Social Security announced a 2.8% cost of living allowance raise next year, but rising health care costs will eat up at least half of it. If the government used a price index for elderly people instead of the one for younger workers, the COLA raise would be more realistic. The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans, closely allied with labor, fights on every front!
