The Dallas AFL-CIO, the very core of the progressive movement, celebrated the actions just taken and outlined a lot more on February 20. Almost all of the speakers commented on our successful rally against the Musk/Trump cuts on February 15. Principal Lou Luckhardt urged us forward: “We need to build on that!”

Stand strong with Lou Luckhardt

Luckhardt emphasized working with our national movement to respond to the Musk/Trump assault against working families by joining the AFL-CIO’s new organization, People Who Work for a Living. Click here.

Keep Organizing!

Rene Rodriguez and Tyler DeLuca described a unique and aggressive plan to organize grocery stores. They are signing up volunteers. Contact tyler.anthony.deluca@gmail.com

Organize with UFCW

David Marshall of Communications Workers Local 6215 urged everyone to sign up to “Protect Our Work.” Infrastructure money for fiber optic is in danger of being hijacked by CEO’s of satellite companies. Marshall also reported on a strategic debate at SMU and their Black History meeting. Contact dmarshall@cwa6215.org

CWA 6215 is always active

By far the busiest list of upcoming activities was presented by Political Director Earnest Tilley. Screening of local candidates begins next weekend and will be completed by March 7. Only AFL-CIO delegates will have a say in the final endorsement decisions. The state labor federation is continuing vital legislative training. Many candidates, former leaders, and Dallas Democrats are calling out for labor’s participation. Contact etilley2006@yahoo.com

In the report from the Young Active Labor Leaders, Co-Chair Britni Cuington called for continued work on the Starbucks organizing drive, the July YALL state convention in North Texas, and a list of activities.

Texas YALL Vice President Arash Farasat announced a new union at a nonprofit that helps immigrants. No sooner had they voted to unionize than they lost funding and were furloughed. They will fight on, but need financial help through the Mosaic furloughed workers emergency relief fund: https://gofund.me/bada0063

Many more appeals and announcements were made at the AFL-CIO meeting. The fightback intensifies!
