Dallas AFL-CIO leader Lewis Fulbright introduced Congressman Marc Veasey to our New Years Day Labor Celebration. Veasey went over some of the upcoming challenges, including the need for better labor and immigrant legislation. He reflected high hopes for accomplishments under the Joe Biden administration. State Rep Lorraine Birabil talked briefly about what is going on with Texas. She said that redistricting will be a special problem to be overcome.

Several activists announced upcoming activities. Many activists have joined the fight to win the special election in Georgia. The idea of holding a  special meeting for Dr Martin Luther King was supported.

Challenges or no challenges, nothing could hold back the spirits of the activists who gathered to say "goodbye and good riddance” to 2020 and to discuss our high hopes for the future. One could say a lot of bad things about the past year, but no one could say that Dallas activists didn’t pull together. That’s what matters!

Your Plans?

The Dallas AFL-CIO expects to hold strategic planning and budgeting during January. All activists are encouraged to add their best thinking.

Our communications work has continued to get better. We have a killer web site, a growing texting data base, good on-line meetings, a growing e-mail base, and excellent social media outreach. What we need, though, is to start weaving our independent efforts together into a combined network for an irresistibly strong progressive movement.
