One of the most important events in Texas history is underway now.

The March for Democracy left Georgetown two days ago and will end with a rally at the Texas Capitol at 10AM tomorrow, July 31. The Texas AFL-CIO and other union people, including North Texans, are there.

Texas icon Willie Nelson will end his pandemic-long silence to perform at the Capitol. The best-known civil rights leaders in America will be there to hear him. The Texas AFL-CIO is posting live videos on Facebook to keep us informed and catch the excitement. Communications Director Ed Sills will call KNON’s “Workers Beat” radio (89.3FM) talk show at 9:50AM to describe the crowd. Meanwhile in Washington, top political leaders are giving their support for the Texas legislators who are fighting for voter rights.

Our progressive forces are converging together like never before. In just the last few days, North Texas labor activists have joined public actions for fair contracts, health care, fair treatment for foreign workers, and the right to organize.

Labor Helps

Even though the U.S. House is working on it, it is unlikely that the full Congress will be able to save hundreds of thousands of Americans from being evicted from their homes after July 31. The regular national labor communicator’s meeting this week pointed out that renters can still get help through the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 800-569-4287.

The Texas AFL-CIO says that anyone who recently drew unemployment compensation can get their health insurance at no cost. Contact healthcare.gov
