The monthly Dallas Central Labor Council meeting on October 15 focused on our final efforts to win the elections for working families. “We’ve got to get to work, Dallas” said President David Lopez. Everyone was encouraged to check in with Political Committee leader Mariah Warwick at MariahWarwick20@gmail.com. Access information for phone banking is changing and new assignments must be made for all volunteers. Saturday at 11AM is our next united effort.

Warwick and other union leaders reported many ongoing efforts. We held a special downtown rally to encourage early voting. We’ve mailed out over 10,000 letters, postcards are going out, we’ve made thousands of phone calls and tens of thousands of texts. Our digital outreach is full of messages and videos with voter information. Bricklayers from Oklahoma are helping Dallas.

Retirees are a big part of our effort. Organizer Judy Bryant announced a statewide retiree ZOOM rally for October 23 from 11-11:30 AM. Former state AFL-CIO President Becky Moeller will preside as political leaders speak for Seniors for Biden/Harris.

National and state labor leaders are backing Dallas all the way. Here is the latest election info from Texas AFL-CIO:

Labor can be proud of our efforts as we dig in for the final push!

Not An Easy Time

Union leaders are busy fighting hard for safety. COVID-19 statistics are rising across the world. As Dallas County moved into the “red” danger zone, , the President of Alliance/AFT, Rena Honea, reported that they are asking that all teaching be virtual for at least the next four weeks. “We are really pushing for the safety of the kids and for the employees of the school district,” she said. All union officers are straining every day to cope with the pandemic and the recession.

There is one new addition to all of labor’s endorsements listed at https://www.texasaflcio.org/dallas/labors-election-work/november-3-candidates-north-texas. The education employees’ union endorsed Alex Enriquez in School District 2.
