It's Time to Strike!

All indications are that investments of time and resources in the labor movement will pay off mightily for working families. Join the effort at the Central Labor Council meeting coming up at 7:30PM on Thursday, June 16 at 1408 N Washington Avenue. All members of affiliated unions are automatically invited. Members of Young Active Labor Leaders and Texas Alliance for Retired Americans may attend. Any guests who would like to attend should contact Lewis Fulbright. We’re making it easy to participate in person AND on-line!

The latest polls indicate that 70% of Americans approve of labor unions – highest since 1965! CNBC reports 59 percent of workers across the U.S. say they support increased unionization in their workplaces.

Labor’s new popularity isn’t just in the polls. New unions are being formed in places where organizing was formerly thought impossible. Several Starbucks organizing drives are underway in Texas, and one of them has already succeeded!

Our movement has high ambitions. The Autoworkers are pushing for union jobs in vehicle electrification. The Communications Workers are pushing for union jobs in broadband infrastructure development. They recently received an endorsement from Vice President Kamala Harris! In the public sphere, the State, County, and Municipal employees are picking up members and new locals. The Government Employees welcomed 4,085 new members in May. Workers all across the country and seeking, and getting, pay increases!

Labor friendly legislation is introduced often. Executive orders from President Biden are going our way. President Biden, in fact, has agreed to attend the national AFL-CIO convention!

Serious Organizers Needed

The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans is experimenting with a powerful new on-line system. Volunteers are assigned a few "target people" to organize for each short task. It was designed to organize unions from the ground up, but could also be used to mobilize activists for any short-term goal. One good example would be to build attendance at a meeting. It could also be used to win an election!

Anyone who wants to be a serious on-line volunteer organizer may contact genelantz.dallasaflcio@gmail.com.
