Keeping Up

Your Dallas AFL-CIO Central Labor Council met on the 2nd Thursday, May 16. Heavy rains caused more on-line attendance than in-person. Your unions continue standing up for members, getting good contracts, and organizing. We are also reaching out to help all working families.

As usual, some of the most exciting outreach work is being done by our younger and older members. The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans and the Young Active Labor Leaders make exciting reports. We have a street action coming up at 10AM on Wednesday, May 22, at 2001 McKinney. Gemtron workers in another state are striking for their rights against a merciless company that intends to steal their pensions. The company’s owners are here, on McKinney!

Gemtron strike

We’ll continue helping strikers at Molson Coors in Fort Worth. They picket Monday-Saturday at 7412 South Freeway, and they are conducting a nationwide boycott of beer products, including Millers and Coors. Our flight attendants in TWU Local 556 at Southwest Airlines signed their contract, but many flight attendants, including those at American Airlines, are struggling under bad conditions. They want everybody to contact congresspersons and demand that the government allow the union to go on strike. To participate, click here.

Flight Attendants Day of Action, June 13

The Young Active Labor Leaders started a new project that is particularly appropriate this weekend when 75,000 gun enthusiasts descend on Dallas for the National Rifle Association Convention. They are supporting the efforts of Tiree Dean who was fired for helping students with a walkout after a shooting at Wilmer Hutchins High School in Dallas. Dean will present his case on KNON radio, knon.org or 89.3FM, at 9AM tomorrow, Saturday.
