Labor Lays Hot Plans
President Ray Oliver Edmondson guided the Dallas AFL-CIO smoothly through a long action agenda on June 16. There were many highlights.
Sister Rena Honea, President of Alliance/AFT said that school employees are menaced by proposals pending at the DISD Board meeting on Thursday, June 23. They need a big turnout of labor supporters wearing red.
Bonnie Mathias emphasized the critical importance of the November elections for working families. She urged support for the Dallas County Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign, 10AM to Noon on June 25th at Main Street Gardens.
Jason Tomlinson and Marilyn Davis outlined a strong plan of political activities that included phone banking and door-to-door canvassing.
Joe Montemayor, an organizer for national AFL-CIO, encouraged more donations for the people of Uvalde after their big school shooting tragedy.
Angi DeFelippo announced that some of the 2026 World Cup soccer games will be played here. She has been working on labor and human rights issues. She said, “We’re going to have millions of eyes on Dallas!”
Lewis Fulbright talked about the options he is developing for the Dallas Labor Day Breakfast, one of the premier annual labor events in Texas.
Judy Bryant announced that the Texas Democratic Party Convention at the Dallas Convention Center will have a Retiree Caucus in room C140 at 9:30AM on July 15. The Labor Caucus will take place soon afterward.
The Young Active Labor Leaders continue to support union organizing at area Starbucks stores. They are getting ready for a major statewide meeting.

National AFL-CIO Sets Precedents
America’s labor federation, for the first time ever, elected a woman to a full term as President. Liz Shuler announced a major shakeup in the way organizing is done. Fred Redmond, the new Secretary Treasurer, is highest elected Black labor leader in history.
The President of the United States attended and said, “I intend to remain the most pro-union president in history.” Labor Secretary Marty Walsh encouraged aggressive action and said, “For the first time in a long time, there’s wind at your back!”
