Labor Meets, Plans, and Acts!
Dallas AFL-CIO Central Labor Council held another “hybrid” meeting with about half the participants in the room and the other half on line. Instead of using a loudspeaker next month, they decided to investigate getting a big TV that can be connected to a laptop. A TV would allow all the “in real life” participants to see as well as hear the “on-line” ones.
Two new delegates were sworn in. Tania Hernandez of Alliance/AFT was in person, and Ashley Breuer of TWU 556 was on-line.
Jason Tomlinson and Marilyn Davis reported on political efforts. Joe Montemayor from National AFL-CIO backed them up. The next door-to-door canvassing is set for 9AM to 12PM on May 7th from the AFT/Alliance hall, 304 W Centre in Oak Cliff. Labor must win in 2022. Volunteers must come forward.
Labor-endorsed candidate Venton Jones gave a good talk about his plans for victory in Texas District 100. Lieutenant Governor candidate Mike Collier said he will defeat the Republican candidate this fall. George Swan talked about speaking to community college and high school classes about great opportunities in Building Trades apprenticeship programs.
The Alliance for Retired Americans is phone banking and carrying out other campaign activities statewide. Jason Tomlinson reported great success in getting ready for our International Workers Day celebration, 2-6PM May 1st in Lake Cliff Park. Co-Sponsors are continuing to send in their $100 donations.
