Labor Needs Rapid Responders
Texas AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Aguilar attended the Dallas AFL-CIO Central Labor Council meeting on September 16. “Things can change by the minute,” was how he characterized the situation in Texas for working families.
Aguilar was perfectly synchronized with Dallas Political Director Mariah Warwick, who emphasized the need to build our Rapid Response Team. Warwick needs volunteers who might be able to respond to new situations as fast as they come up.
The Council meeting also discussed our highly successful Labor Day event, a lawsuit for voter rights, apprenticeship jobs that are available, and other developments concerning working families in Dallas County. Vice President Bonnie Mathias chaired the meeting. She ended it by asking everyone to listen to “Workers Beat” at 9AM every Saturday on KNON.org.
Register Everyone to Vote
If we learned anything at all from the big fight over voter rights in the Texas Legislature, it was that our votes really matter. We need to make sure that everyone is registered under their correct name and address. A good way to check registration, make necessary changes, and even to apply to vote by mail, is to use http://register2vote.org.
More instructions for activists are on our Dallas AFL-CIO web site.
