Labor Offers “Do Something” Choices

While another disastrous government shutdown faces us at the end of this month and the most critical decisions that Americans have ever faced come due November 5th, your labor movement is providing more than a lot of things you can do about it.

At the Central Labor Council on September 19, we discussed the Firefighters’ fight to win collective bargaining, AFT 2260’s effort to win an Educator’s Bill of Rights, ATU 1338’s fight against cuts in our mass transit system, organizing at Starbucks, re-hiring the Fired Black Dancers, organizing in the LGTBTQ+ community, organizing women, rallying against a government shutdown with the TSA workers at Love Field, rallying for early voting, and even more. Just see the list below.

Almost all of our battles are directly connected to politics, and we have to win in November. The first big door-to-door canvassing is tomorrow, Saturday, September 21. Meet at 1408 N Washington between 9 And 10AM. We’re phone banking every Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7PM, from 1408 N Washington and from home with on-line assistance. Hands Across Texas

Labor is strongest in the big cities, but the Dallas AFL-CIO is also growing stronger elsewhere. We’ve had emissaries in several North Texas towns recently. This week, Lou Luckhardt brought Thomas Jones and Gene Lantz with him to the UAW 967 hall in Greenville for a candidates’ night. Everyone was glad to have labor participating and some good contacts were made. Luckhardt bought a 12-passenger van and expects to take more activists outside Dallas.
