Take a joyous look back through labor’s year by looking through our web site. Dallas AFL-CIO carried out more events, and more successful events, than any time in recent history. Here are some of them:

  • Martin Luther King march & parade
  • International Women’s Day
  • Candidate screening and endorsement process
  • Early vote rallies
  • International Workers Day
  • Labor Day
  • Solidarity Cookout for striking workers
  • Christmas Party
Solidarity wins

Labor Grows Stronger

The Dallas Council grew with important new affiliates from the Actors, Government Employees, and Bakery & Confectionary. Labor’s all-important periphery showed its muscle in 2023. The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans continued to bring seniors to back labor’s moves. The Young Active Labor Leaders dazzled everybody with their solidarity efforts for strikes and organizing drives. Our Speakers Bureau had far more outreaching success than any year since its creation. Labor’s radio program on KNON raised more money than ever. Our solidarity efforts paid off with victories among airline workers, coffee shop workers, actors, and auto workers. More North Texans are wearing red on Thursdays as labor continues to pick up steam.

In politics, Dallas labor cannot be ignored. We screened candidates and won elections. We backed the Communications Workers in their vital effort to get broadband communications handled right. We backed the school employees in stopping the effort to undermine and destroy our public schools. Political leaders gladly joined our solidarity efforts and showed up at our meetings and activities.

What’s Coming?

Candidates for statewide office in our area have already received their endorsement applications and must return them to jtomlinson.dallasaflcio@gmail.com by Sunday, December 31. We will begin screening on January 6. Retired and disabled Texans will get information and encouragement on their annual application to vote by mail on January 2. Labor’s big contingent in the Martin Luther King march and parade is already set for January 15. Union members and union supporters, let’s get on board!
