Not Much Time for Glory

The Dallas AFL-CIO Labor Day Breakfast was stunning. Top labor leaders were joined by community and political leaders who understand the primary role of working families. We had great speakers who outlined our recent victories and the challenges before us. Major speeches from the Communications Workers and the Auto Workers were preserved in an audio podcast. Senate Candidate Colin Allred and Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy also roused the crowd, especially about the November elections. The AFL-CIO has published a comparison of the presidential candidates.

The historic Longhorn Ballroom was charged with the electricity of people who are ready to fight and sure to win.

The outstanding organizers for the entire event were Jason Thomlinson and Lou Luckhardt.

It was a glorious Labor Day Breakfast, but we all knew that we have little time for glory. Thousands of CWA members are on strike. The President of the Boeing local in Washington predicts a strike beginning September 12. Locally, we are helping Starbucks workers organize and doing everything we can think of to help the fired Dallas Black Dancers. Retirees have already started phone banking and our first door-to-door canvassing is set for September 21. Everybody, join in!
