Now’s Your Chance
Working and retired Americans are bracing for a storm beginning Inauguration Day. They are trying to figure out what to do. But why wait? Let's start now!
One of the biggest and most anti-worker corporations in the world, Amazon, is being struck big time, and we can play a role by showing up 6-9AM tomorrow, Friday, for solidarity pickets at these locations:
- 2701 West Bethel Rd Coppell TX 75019
- 1851 NE Loop 820 Fort Worth TX 76131
- 2601 West Bethel Road Coppell TX 75019
- 1301 Chalk Hill Rd., Dallas, TX 75212
- 9155 Southlink Dr., Dallas, TX 75241
Friday picketing won't begin until 2 PM at 1482 Akron Way, Forney, TX 75126
Management is accused of unfair labor practices and of allowing worker injuries as a “cost of doing business.” There may be more opportunities during the Christmas season.
Stand with Public Employees
Elon Musk, who has bought himself into a powerful position, threatens all public employees with layoffs. He sabotaged the continuing resolution that was supposed to have avoid a government shutdown tomorrow, December 20. We can find out how to help through a new clearing house named "Civil Service Strong" that was supposed to have launched today.
Don't Mourn, Organize
Lou Luckhardt (lluckhardt.dallasaflcio@gmail.com or 214-826-4808) is still helping the Steelworkers with an important organizing drive in Mesquite. Starbucks Workers United is developing a national strategy to organize more shops and win union contracts for the ones that have already signed up. Flight attendants and hotel workers are organizing and striking.
Defend Immigrants, Defend All Workers!
Your Dallas AFL-CIO has joined with others to produce a citizenship forum from 9 AM to 3 PM January 11 at the School Employees' Hall, 334 Centre in Oak Cliff. Workers with green cards can get the information and help they need to become citizens. Contact Lou Luckhardt (lluckhardt.dallasaflcio@gmail.com or 214-826-4808) to help. Mr Trump has guaranteed mass deportations beginning January 20, so it is time to get involved!
March for Fairness and Justice
Labor's contingent in the Dallas Martin Luther King march and parade can include many kinds of workers and many kinds of issues that we are facing. Some organizations may prefer to pay the fee and have their own contingents, but they would be welcome in ours.
We will gather in Fair Park as we did last year. Older and disabled people will be able to ride. Many of us will be marching!
Dancers Continue Organizing
The great success of the Fired Black Dallas Dancers is not concluding this evening with their second sold-out benefit performance. They are forming a group with their union, "Dancers Deserve Better" and fighting on.
