Around the world, the week that includes International Workers Day will likely draw crowds that will be larger, more intense, and more significant than any since 1886, when demands for the 8-hour day rocked the planet. Dallas and Tarrant County unions are participating fully. It begins in Dallas on at 2PM on Sunday, April 27, with a rally and march at Civic Garden Park, 1100 Commerce. Unions are joined by a long list of endorsees.

MayDay kickoff event

unprecedented endorsements for protests include labor

Retirees have a picnic at noon on the main day, May 1, at Kidd Springs Park. The Dallas Central Labor Council marks the occasion at 2PM on May 3 inside the Postal Employees’ Hall, 2010 Postal Way. Activists are encouraged to attend as many events as possible with their own signs rejecting the Musk/Trump attempts at dictatorship.

Public Employee Cuts Hurt Everyone

Congressman Marc Veasey, speaking at the Dallas AFL-CIO’s Town Hall meeting on April 21, said that North Texas has the third largest concentration of federal employees in the nation. At a Texas AFL-CIO planning meeting on April 25, the Regional Director for American Federation of Government Employees, Shannon Faulk, said that half her members can expect to be laid off by the end of May! She encouraged everyone to urge congresspersons to vote for HR2250 to stop Trump’s executive orders, and she noted that Congresswoman Crockett had not joined the others in co-sponsoring yet.

Congressman Veasey heard from AFGE union leaders Justin Chen and Sheria Smith on the 21st, but Education Department and Environmental Protection workers aren’t the only public employees that are up in arms. Jonathan Cage spoke for the Postal Employees, David Marshall spoke for Communications Workers, and Donnie Jolly spoke for Transportation Workers. Labor is united in opposing all cuts to public workers and the many services they provide. The Musk/Trump attacks are a pay cut for every working family!

Election Is Underway

Early voting started April 22, and labor is working hard to bring more people into the battle for our rights. Marching, legal action, and voting are all critical arenas of struggle. We’re phone banking every day and block walking on Saturdays. Contact Etilley2006@yahoo.com
