Airport service workers reached out for help this week and got it! DFW was one of 11 airports with major demonstrations that included lots of  unions and labor allies.

Cesar Calderon, organizer with the Service Employees (SEIU), reports that over 200 people rallied on Wednesday, the hottest day of the year, at DFW Terminal C. Among them was the International SEIU President, Mary Kay Henry. Calderon provided photos:

Union and commercial reporters covered the event, including WFAA in Dallas.

Be an Emissary!

Texas AFL-CIO communicator Ed Sills reported on the airport rallies, just as he did on the news release from Dallas AFL-CIO concerning Eugene Gates jr, the Dallas Letter Carrier (NALC) who died on a customer’s lawn. In several articles this week, Sills gave labor’s view on climate change, worker deaths from heat stroke, and Texas politicians’ disdain for worker safety as signified by the new law that takes away the right to water breaks in the hot sun. Anybody can report labor news to Ed Sills by writing ed@texasaflcio.org. Getting on his news distribution list is a must for Texas activists.

Dallas activists are registering for our program for personal reach out. They will be going to unions, political clubs, churches, and community organizations to convince everyone to work together on behalf of working families. Our first on-line Labor Workshop, at 5PM on Sunday July 2, will help sharpen our public speaking skills by letting each participant make a (very) short speech and then getting feedback.
