Solidarity for Christmas
The holiday spirit is charged with solidarity!
As the Dallas Central Labor Council celebrated the holidays on December 15, more Americans are unionizing than ever in recent history. Contract settlements are improving. Workers are fighting back against reactionary bosses. The entire nation of Peru is on strike; train workers and nurses are on strike in the United Kingdom; 100 American Starbucks stores are on strike; and journalists in the Fort Worth Newsguild are fighting back against the McClatchy Corporation that owns the Star Telegram!
Judy Bryant provided some photos of our Christmas Party at 1408 N Washington.
Lew Luckhardt, at left, led the effort for a great holiday party. Earnest Tilley, whose CWA 6215 hosts most progressive events in Dallas, backed the effort. Standing in the background of this photo, always in the background, is the Central Labor Council's accountant and resident artist, Jason Tomlinson.
Our young labor leaders enlivened the celebration. Seniors and youth both strengthen the Dallas progressive movement.
North Texas Backs the Strikers
The Fort Worth Newsguild journalists are about to round out a month of striking. Various unions and other progressives have their backs. Donations continue to come to the strike fund at https://www.gofundme.com/f/fort-worth-newsguild-strike-fund/donate.
Fort Worth firemen donated $10,000 this week. The strikers meet every weekday at 11:45AM at Avoca Coffee shop, 835 Foch in Fort Worth, for a short march. On December 16, they welcomed backers from the Teamsters, the Tarrant County Central Labor Council, and a good delegation of retirees from the Dallas Chapter of Texas Alliance for Retired Americans. After the march, the seniors bought lunches for the strikers.
