Strengthen Labor, Make Progress!
Union members are the core, but not the entirety, of the American labor movement. We are pulling together to defend living standards for all working families in the U.S. Congress, the Texas Legislature, local government, and the streets. Right now, Dallas AFL-CIO needs your help to win the May 6 elections. Our endorsed candidates are listed on our web site.

Pull Together
Work on elections and lobbying is critical, but not nearly all that the labor movement does. Good jobs and decent treatment are always the priority. National AFL-CIO is asking North Texans to form coalitions to make sure that the World Cup games create good jobs in such fields as transportation, entertainment and hospitality.
Labor’s Constituency Groups will be a great help. Sister Juana Ramirez of Workers United just received a list of 48 North Texans who have joined the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) through the national web site, http://lclaa.org. It costs only $20/year and retirees pay only $10.
Supporters of all types and ages are invited to a meet on ZOOM at 4PM on April 16. At 4:30 they will use “breakout rooms” for LCLAA and other specific groups. Organizing drives, elections, street actions, and contract negotiations will be among the topics. We grow stronger as we unite!
Labor Lobbies
On April 5, Congressman Marc Veasey assembled a group of labor leaders to discuss our priorities. Union leaders from all over North Texas, especially legislative specialists, discussed the current situation and what we need in future. Veasey gave a short report, then listened carefully to the needs of working families.
Retirees used the occasion to give Congressman Veasey another “Hero” award for voting 100% in the last session. That same day, Congressman Colin Allred was similarly honored at a meeting of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans.
Every morning during the Texas legislative session, labor leaders strategize together then fan out in the capitol to push for our rights. They deal with a long list of challenges and opportunities. Keep up on developments by emailing ed@texasaflcio.org.
