"The tide is with working families," says Mark York, the principal officer of the Dallas AFL-CIO. He refers not only to the big upsurge in workers on strike, but to expected victories in the March 3 primary election. Labor doesn't just make predictions, we also make them come true.

Dallas activists will hit the streets at 10 AM on Saturday, February 15 after gathering at 1408 N Washington. From 5 to 7 PM on Monday, February 17, we will be phone banking from the same union building. Early voting begins the next day. Everyone who supports working families is encouraged to help us win!

Retirees Endorse

The Dallas Chapter of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans recommended, and the state board endorsed, four candidates for the primary election. They are Lorraine Birabil for Texas House 100, Joanna Cattanach for Texas House 108, John Turner for Texas House 114, and Dr Theresa Daniel for County Commissioner. All of the applicants filled out a long questionnaire and made presentations to the Dallas Chapter at its 1st Wednesday meeting. Retirees then grilled them on the issues that matter most to seniors.

TARA Field Organizer Judy Bryanthas instituted a program to let retirees make phone calls from their homes. Retiree-to-retiree phone calling is an effective way to increase vote totals. Retirees, especially union retirees, are the best voters in the electorate.

Texas labor's endorsed candidates are in the news section of our web sitealong with county endorsements in Dallas and Tarrant.
