Want to be Dangerous?

A lot of us have strong political opinions, but we make little difference until we actually engage in political battles. The labor movement is offering free training for those who really want to make a difference. Kickoff events for political training are scheduled around North Texas:

  • Tarrant County, July 30, 2022
  • Dallas County, August 06, 2022
  • Collin County, August 13, 2022
  • Denton County, August 20, 2022

The Dallas AFL-CIO effort begins at 9:30 AM on August 6th at 1408 N Washington. Training will go over the mechanics of the Minivan App for block walking, operating Labor Action Network for phone banking, best practices, and more. This will be the first in a series of political and mobilization training sessions that the Texas AFL-CIO will host.

Please RSVP by contacting Marilyn Davis at marilyn@texasaflcio.org or Jason Tomlinson at jtomlinson.dallasaflcio@gmail.com.

National AFL-CIO held its first two training sessions this week with release staff from affiliated unions and federated bodies. Release staff are union member activists who temporarily leave their job to work on political campaigns for their unions and federated bodies. They will ramp up training for the next six weeks. Release staff may contact the AFL-CIO’s training webpage!

The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans has already held several training webinars. The most recent one was on "Organizing with Facebook." The next one, July 29, will be on Hispanic Retiree Voters. Contact Judy Bryant at judy4tara@aol.com.

Labor Wins at TDP

Lee Forbes

Labor supported political leaders Gilberto Hinojosa and Lee Forbes were reelected to state party offices with strong support of unions during the last day of the Texas Democratic Party convention in Dallas. We held two important events: “Labor Caucus,” and “Labor Retiree Caucus.” A video message from Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy is available on YouTube.
