We Adapt and Fight On!

On November 20, delegates and affiliate members gathered for the last traditional meeting of the Dallas AFL-CIO Central Labor Council. As described below by Arash Farasat, it was a blast! The old council  (since 1910) will take a new form. We've done a great job, and everyone could take a well-deserved rest; except that we are still working our tails off:

  • Supporting the historic nationwide Starbucks strike and boycott
  • Standing strong against efforts to undermine mass transit
  • Electing our union candidates, especially those in January elections such as Lou Luckhardt in Ennis and Taylor Rehmet in Fort Worth
  • Holding continuing meetings with elected officials
  • Getting ready to have great fun at our Casino Night in December
  • Combining efforts with our state and national labor leaders

Letter Describes the Final Delegates' Meeting

Good morning Gene. I hope your night went well. I have some photos for you as promised.

We had a great showing last night, despite the rain. Bonnie [Mathias] read your letter.  We also honored Lou, Jason and Earnest's service. There were a few candidates announcing, including Lou and another Steelworker named Jose Loya. Starbucks Workers gave a report and we passed the hat for their strike fund. ATU spoke about the DART pullout elections in May, for which we must mobilize. We passed the following resolution which I think will be historic:

“The Dallas CLC will require Federal candidates running for the 2026 elections and vying for the labor endorsement recommendation to join in person with our community to have a dialogue about Palestine; prior to the 2026 March primaries.”

I believe we will be the first CLC in the country to engage with this subject in such a way. I can not think of a better step to take on the last full meeting of this institution. That step will help us get to the next one,  until the whole world is liberated. I know it.

In Solidarity,

Arash Farasat
