Your labor movement is helping raise funds for food banks on the assumption that the shutdown over health care will continue. Federal food assistance programs are expected to shut down Saturday, November 1. The Texas AFL-CIO encourages donations to Feeding Texas, a grouping for all the food banks in the state. Our own North Texas Food Bank is asking for donations of imperishable foods and money.

Food banks also need volunteers, but they do not accept individual walk-ins because handling other people’s food is an important matter. Volunteers may start with the North Texas Food Bank web site.

The principal officer of Dallas AFL-CIO, Lou Luckhardt, is working on volunteer opportunities for union members and supporters. He has had experience bringing groups of volunteers to help sack groceries. Lou is also working with David Marshall of CWA 6215 for a special event around Veterans Day, November 11. Contact him at lluckhardt.dallasaflcio@gmail.com.

It’s Not the Dog in the Fight, It’s the Fight in the Dog
