What If They Don't Shut Down the Government?

“We do not capitulate to fascists or bigots.” – AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler

If no Continuing Resolution is reached by Tuesday, expect the government to slam shut. Democrats are arguing to avoid massive increases in health care costs. Republicans are threatening massive layoffs. Whether they shut it down or not, the union movement is bracing for action.

Our shining hope is solidarity. North Texas activists continue to open up possibilities. At 11AM tomorrow, September 26, we protest at 122 N Beacon Street in Corsicana. We can help Starbucks practice for a national showdown at 10AM on Saturday at 2425 Valley View Ln in Farmers Branch. Our radio show is 9AM Saturday on KNON.org and retirees hold a planning session at 12:30PM on Wednesday at 334 Centre in Oak Cliff.

Make “No Kings” Day The Biggest Yet

The October 18 No Kings Day of Protest will likely be the largest protest in American history. The http://nokings.org map shows 12 actions scheduled between Greenville and Weatherford, and more are surely in planning. Lou Luckhardt of Dallas AFL-CIO had started working on the main Dallas protest even before the national labor movement committed to support.

We need activists to put up tables for the labor movement at as many of the protests as possible. It would be a good idea to wear red, the color of the labor movement since 1789, and to encourage everyone to wear red on Thursdays until the threat of dictatorship is finished.

Solidarity in Practice

Lou Luckhardt speaks for labor, Steelworkers, and retirees

National labor leader Justin Chen at Dallas City Hall

Public employees joined together for a rally at Dallas City Hall on September 23. The main speakers were Lou Luckhardt, representing the Dallas City employees, and Justin Chen, National President representing the Environmental Protection Agency workers. Protesters included our Young Active Labor Leaders, Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees and Texas Alliance for Retired Americans. Although we come from different organizations and different backgrounds, our common cause is expressed in solidarity!
