We Pull Together

Labor’s electoral machine is red hot! National, state, and local (Bit.ly/DallasCLC?r=qr) labor leaders are soliciting and training volunteers, then pushing actions. The Kamala Harris campaign is soliciting union members and, especially, seniors.

The traditional launching pad for Dallas area labor activities, our Labor Day Breakfast on September 2, is set to go off like a rocket. One of the expected speakers is Kevin Huddleston, political director for Region 8 of the Autoworkers (UAW). This week, his union joined the many who have endorsed Kamala Harris for President. Jason Tomlinson (jtomlinson.dallasaflcio@gmail.com) is collecting orders for sponsorships, ads, tables, and individual seats for the breakfast. Contact him at jtomlinson.dallasaflcio@gmail.com. Checks can be mailed to: 1408 N. Washington Ave. #240, Dallas, TX 75204; or paid online at https://square.link/u/Pfw3iALZ We'll see you for breakfast at the historic Longhorn Ballroom.

Seniors Emphasize the Issues

The anniversary of Social Security will be the main topic for Congressman Marc Veasey when the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans honors longtime leader Judy Bryant and tries to raise some political funds at the Charco-Broil restaurant, 413 W Jefferson, at 12:30PM on Wednesday, August 7. One of the most important local candidates, Elizabeth Ginsberg for State Representative in District 108, helped the retirees emphasize the health care issue on the anniversary of Medicare/Medicaid, July 30.

Share Your Excitement

Many of us are excited about these elections. Guiding and motivating voters requires everything in our toolkit, but all veteran campaigners agree that there is no substitute for face-to-face conversations. Let’s participate in the annual “Labor in the Pulpit” effort to get union speakers into churches around Labor Day. Let’s use our Speakers Bureau to get into every possible classroom or community meeting.
