The Rio Grande Valley is getting ready to show up.

On May 2, 2026, workers, union members, and community allies from across the region will gather in Edinburg for the Marcha del Pueblo—a collective action rooted in solidarity, dignity, and the growing power of working people in South Texas.

This is more than a march.
It is part of a national May Day effort bringing together organizations and workers across the country with a shared message: our communities should be invested in—not the pockets of those already in power.

Why This Matters in the Valley

In the Rio Grande Valley, the issues facing working people are not abstract.

This is a region powered by workers who feed our communities, build our homes, educate our students, and provide essential services every day. Yet too many of those same workers face economic instability, limited opportunity, and policies that fail to reflect their contributions.

The Marcha del Pueblo is about changing that.

It is about making working people visible—and building the collective strength needed to demand better.

A Moment for Solidarity

In a border region like the Rio Grande Valley, labor and community issues are deeply connected.

Workers here are part of immigrant families, mixed-status households, and communities directly impacted by policy decisions around enforcement, wages, and access to opportunity.

The labor movement has always understood that when workers are divided, everyone loses.

The Marcha del Pueblo is a statement of unity—that working people in the Valley stand together, across industries and backgrounds, to demand dignity, fairness, and respect.

Show Up. Stand Together. Build Power.

For the Rio Grande Valley Central Labor Council, this moment is about more than participation—it’s about building a stronger movement.

We are calling on:

  • Affiliated unions to mobilize their members
  • Delegates and leaders to organize and bring others with them
  • Community allies and families to stand alongside working people
