2025 Texas AFL-CIO Career-Building Scholarship

Each year, the Texas AFL-CIO awards $1,500 scholarships to affiliated union members who have gone back to school to build their career. The return to education may be to college, university or a trade school. Applications will be considered by the Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship Committee.
Who May Apply
Affiliated union members looking to return to school to advance their careers. The union must be affiliated with both the Texas AFL-CIO and any Central Labor Council or other local body with jurisdiction over your residence or workplace. Applicants must plan to attend a university, college, or technical institute.
Scholarship Value
The scholarship is a one-time grant of $1,500.
How to Apply
The career-building scholarship application is available online here, from your Central Labor Council, or from the Texas AFL-CIO Education Department at P.O. Box 12727, Austin, TX 78711. Postmark deadline for applying is Friday, May 2, 2025.
Please list the Central Labor Council, if any, with which your union is affiliated. To verify your affiliation, make sure the application is signed by a union officer.

Selection Process
The Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship Committee will judge all applications when it meets in June 2025 to consider high school and continuing scholarships. The Committee will consider the applicant’s plan for a career boost, participation in the labor movement, and any special circumstances cited in the application, including financial need, to reach a decision.
If you are awarded a scholarship, please contact the Texas AFL-CIO Education Department in writing or via email to scholarship@texasaflcio.org and give us the name and address of the financial aid department at the university, college or technical institute you plan to attend. The scholarship, which may be used for tuition, fees or other direct educational expenses, will be paid directly to the program of your choice.
