Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy and Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Aguilar posted this statement on the death of U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee:

“Sheila Jackson Lee was a force of nature. During her three decades in Congress, that force was always applied in the direction of the working families of her district, her state and her nation.”

“On matters of worker rights, civil rights and human rights, the Texas AFL-CIO could not have had a better friend. Sheila was integral to progress for working people and first to the fights. Her combination of unwavering friendship and readiness to stand on the front lines of legislative battles made all Texas workers stronger.”

“We offer our condolences to the Jackson Lee family. We will long remember Sheila as a champion for working people everywhere and, as she requested, we will keep her and her family in our prayers.”

The Texas AFL-CIO is the state labor federation representing 240,000 affiliated members who advocate for working people in Texas.
