Texas AFL-CIO Thanks Sponsors, Donors, Volunteers at Texas AFL-CIO/Walter Umphrey Golf Tournament
The 2024 Texas AFL-CIO/Walter Umphrey Golf Tournament was a success in multiple ways: good weather with a low mosquito quotient; a relaxed day in which union activists and allies could catch up with one another in camaraderie; and an outstanding fundraising total for the Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship Fund and Texas AFL-CIO Membership Education Fund.
The fundraising piece is, of course, the part that has to work well. This year’s event had support from a broad array of union and allied organizations and individuals, and the funds are critical to our operations. The state labor federation’s scholarship program remains one of our favorite things to do. We have stepped up in recent years, raising the individual scholarship amounts and adding a new scholarship, each of which costs money. And Membership Education funding has helped us embark on unprecedented, or in a couple of cases revivified, programs that are strengthening our outreach and building our movement.
