Emily Amps

Emily Amps is the Director of Politics & Policy at the Texas AFL-CIO, and oversees the state federation’s public policy and electoral work. Before joining the Texas AFL-CIO in December 2021, Emily worked in the Texas Legislature for 13 years, including 11 as Chief of Staff to State Representative Chris Turner. She also served as Committee Director for the House Committee on Business & Industry, which has oversight over many issues impacting unions and our state’s workforce. Before her career in the Texas Capitol, Emily spent a decade working on political campaigns throughout the state. 

In her spare time, Emily plays soccer in an all-women’s soccer league, volunteers as a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST), and spends as much time as she can with her husband (Eric), 12-year-old (Tristan), and the new feline addition to the family (Cosmic).
