The AFL-CIO Organizing Institute (OI) and the Texas AFL-CIO is excited to announce our upcoming OI 3-Day Training! The training will take place July 22-24, 2026. DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION is June 24th or when spaces are filled to capacity.

This training is designed to provide organizers the tools to empower working people to WIN respect and dignity on the job! This training is open to ALL national & local AFL-CIO-affiliated unions with staff or members. Register your members & staff organizers to attend this organizing training to gain valuable tools for your current & next union organizing campaign! We also encourage you to ID and register member activists who identify as women and activists of color.  

WHAT ORGANIZERS WILL LEARN:

  • Day 1 - How to have the Right 1-on-1 Organizing Conversation              
  • Day 2 - Recruiting and Developing Key Workplace Leaders
  • Day 3 - How to Run Issue Campaigns to Build Momentum!                        

TRAINING LOCATION
This training will be held in person in Austin, TX. Location details will be provided after registration is completed.

HOW TO REGISTER PARTICIPANTS
Today, June 1, 2026, at 12 noon Eastern, you can register your organizing teams at www.aflcio.org/OI. Union members and staff organizers cannot sponsor themselves (they must be approved by their local union officer or direct supervisor). Once participants are registered and approved, they will receive a participant training packet prior to the training. Registration is not complete until the participant registers through the link provided in the email and payment is received.

We encourage you to register your participants as early as possible, as we anticipate the training will reach capacity quickly.  

COST TO SPONSOR A PARTICIPANT: Training Fee and Materials is $250.00 per participant and must be paid before registration is complete. All travel and lodging expenses are paid by the sponsoring union. Participants must be approved by their local union elected officer or a direct supervisor.  

HOTEL AND AIRPORT INFORMATION: Participants needing to travel by air can fly into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).

*Hotel: Information will be provided after registration to the training is completed.

CRITERIA TO ATTEND: For unions sending 3 or more participants, we request a Teaching Fellow from the local or national union. Participants must also be able to attend the entire training to be accepted, to receive an OI Certificate of Completion, and for the sponsoring union to receive an evaluation after the training is completed.

The AFL-CIO will follow the protocol in place for Austin, TX. Masks are optional at the training. For all other venues, please check with the individual establishments, as mask and proof-of-vaccination requirements vary.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Once participants have been approved by their elected officers and/or supervisors, a training guide with an agenda and training materials will be sent to the email address on file at least 10 days prior to the training.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TRAINING?
Once the participants have completed the entire training, they will receive an OI Certificate of Completion. Also, the union will receive a full evaluation from the OI, assessing the skills and recommending next steps in learning & training for the participant they registered.
