GENE VANCE

1931-1990

Gene Vance, a hardworking advocate of unionism, began his career in the labor movement in 1950 when he joined the Communications Workers of America (CWA).

Brother Vance served as a steward and a chief steward from 1959 until 1966, when he was elected Vice President of CWA Local 6215. He served as President of the local for 15 years, between 1972 and 1987.

He served in many local, regional and state union offices through the years, including Vice President of the Texas AFL-CIO.

A kind and generous man who was immediately liked by all who met him, Brother Vance passed away in March 1990.

Brother Gene Vance will be remembered by all his brothers and sisters in the labor movement for both his persistent good humor and his devotion to the union cause.
