Jack Bostick
1909 - 2007
Jack Bostick came of age during the Great Depression, when he saw and lived the harsh realities forced upon working men and women everywhere. It hardened his resolve to create a better world.
His fellow firefighters in the Fort Worth Fire Department, where he began working in 1931, recognized him as a man of dedication and conviction, a leader. When the firefighters organized Local 440 in 1938, Brother Bostick began his long career as a labor leader.
Among other leadership positions, he served 35 years as a leader of Local 440, 40 years as Secretary-Treasurer of the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters, and 30 years at the Association of Fire Fighters.
A tireless worker, an appointee to numerous committees advising state and national political leaders, an experienced negotiator, he was made Vice President Emeritus of IAFF for life in 1982.
Few have served the goals of American workers with the resolve of Brother Jack Bostick, who deserves a place in labor’s memory.
